Gabriella and Raphael’s timeless and glamorous wedding in Richmond, VA, beautifully illustrates the essence of true connection and building a life together. They first met at VCU in Richmond, Virginia—a city that has become the backdrop for some of their most cherished moments. Now living in Northern Virginia, Gabriella shines as a Washington Commanders Dancer, while Raphael thrives at an investment firm. Their journey, filled with love, dedication, and mutual respect, led to a wedding day that truly reflected their unique story.
Having photographed Gabriella’s sister Olivia’s wedding last summer, I was thrilled to capture another special day for this wonderful family. They chose Richmond, Virginia, for their big day, a place rich with history and personal significance. Planning the wedding in just 10 months, they invited 235 guests to celebrate their union. Their theme was a timeless and classic vibe with a touch of glam, perfectly matching their personalities. Be sure to check out Gabriella and Raphael’s engagement session as well.
The day started with the girls getting ready at the iconic Jefferson Hotel, adding a touch of luxury to the preparations. Gabriella embraced the elegance of Old Hollywood with an off-the-shoulder, lace mermaid style gown that highlighted her grace and beauty. Her hair, styled in loose waves, added to the vintage glamour. She carried a bouquet of pale pink peonies, enhancing her romantic bridal look. Raphael complemented her in a classic black tuxedo, embodying sophistication and timeless charm. Seeing them together was breathtaking—a perfect match in every sense.
A heartwarming moment was the grand reveal with her bridesmaids. Their reactions were priceless, filled with joy and admiration. Afterward, a deeply moving prayer session, where the girls prayed over Gabriella, adding a spiritual and emotional depth to the day. Lastly, a beautiful first look shared by Gabriella with her dad, a sweet moment filled with love that will be cherished forever.
Meanwhile, the guys got ready at the John Marshall Hotel. They spent the morning playing pool and chess, and hanging out, enjoying some relaxed time together before the hustle and bustle of the day began. This laid-back start allowed them to bond and set a positive tone for the celebration ahead.
Although it rained for much of the day, nothing could dampen the spirits of the happy couple. Their joy was unwavering, and they embraced the weather with grace and positivity, making their day even more memorable. The ceremony took place at St. John’s United Church of Christ in Richmond, chosen for its traditional and spiritual significance. Faith and family are central to Gabriella and Raphael’s lives, making this church the perfect setting for their vows. The atmosphere filled with reverence and joy while promising to love and cherish each other forever.
Following the ceremony, the reception at The John Marshall Ballrooms was a grand affair, blending elegance with heartfelt celebration. Adorned with classic floral centerpieces, the ballroom created a sophisticated and romantic ambiance. Their first dance to Kina Grannis’ “Can’t Help Falling in Love” was a poignant moment, undeniably capturing the deep bond they share. Their incredibly large wedding party of 30 included mostly family members, unquestionably emphasizing the importance of family in their lives.
Certainly one of the most personal touches were the signature cocktails, which showcased their personalities and tastes. Raphael’s the “El Jefe” (bourbon, bitters, simple syrup, ice, orange zest), Gabriella’s the “Command Force” (tequila, grapefruit juice, fresh lime juice, club soda), and together they shared the “Ortiz Margarita” (tequila, fresh lime juice mix, triple sec).
Gabriella’s connection to the Washington Commanders added a unique touch to the day. From her signature cocktail to a spirited cheer dance during the reception and pom-pom streamers for the send-off, these elements subsequently brought extra joy and excitement. These nods to her professional life made the celebration uniquely theirs.
The undeniably standout moments of the evening, when Gabriella and Raphael were invited on stage to sing with the band and Gabriella’s cheer dance, showcasing her talent and adding to the festive atmosphere. These spontaneous, joyful moments highlighted their fun-loving personalities and the genuine happiness that surrounds them. These moments, filled with laughter and love, are a true reflection of their vibrant relationship.
