Ashley and Camden Inman are a husband and wife wedding photography + videography team in Richmond. Getting their start, Ashley photographed her first wedding in the summer of 2013. After the two got married, it’s obvious they are more than just partners in life, but excellent business partners as well. When they asked me to bring their business story to life with a new branded headshot session, I was excited to take part.
What makes a branding session unique, especially for a small business? They combine the element of a professional headshot with your unique personality. In a personal branding session, we dive deeper into not just who you are personally but begin telling the story of your brand visually.
The Inmans bring a fresh perspective and lightheartedness to the way they capture relationships. This is something that was important to portray in their shoot, by embracing the way they connect with each other.
Posing during a branding session can always seem unnatural or awkward. I often get asked “How should I pose for a personal branding session” or “What should I bring with me to the branding session?” I find there is a great balance between “posing” for a shot and curating the perfect candid moment.
In branding sessions, utilizing props or a location that resonates with your brand is essential for enhancing your brand’s visual story. Things like, lighting and location play an important role. Carrying the theme of lightheartedness, I did their branding shoot at Contrast RVA, a beautiful natural light studio in Richmond, VA.
Selecting the right outfit is crucial for your branded headshot. Choose clothing that reflects your personal brand and the image you want to convey. Solid colors and simple patterns work best, avoiding overly busy patterns or logos that may distract from your face. I loved their outfit choices and capturing their connection as a team as well as who they are individually.
I met Ashley several years ago when she second shot at a wedding with me. She and I got along well and have similar styles and personalities. So naturally we have swapped countless family and headshot sessions over the years. I love having people like her to network and grow alongside.
A professional headshot is a powerful tool for making a great first impression in today’s digital world. Whether you’re updating your LinkedIn profile or revamping your website, a well-crafted headshot can help you stand out from the crowd.
