I had the privilege of capturing Lila, a former Senior at Matoaca High School, this spring. Her bright and bubbly senior portrait session at Maymont Park and Monument Avenue in Richmond, Virginia, is what my photography loving dreams are made of.
When dressing for any photo session, it is important to choose clothing that is comfortable and exudes your confidence. Lila was able to do that, while maintaining her unique sense of style. On the day of her spring senior portrait session, Lila donned a mix of casual and semi-formal pieces with trendy silhouettes in bright and bubbly shades of blush, lilac, and red – all of which flaunted her flawless complexion.

After Lila shared some of her ideas for her bright and bubbly senior portrait session, I knew we needed a relatively neutral backdrop. Greenery is nature’s neutral, so Lila and her mother met me at Maymont, where Richmond’s natural elements and beautiful blooms were on full display.
Then we strolled along the bustling but beautiful Monument Avenue, pausing for a few moments to capture photos in front of the grand columns, balustrades, and windows that make up some of Richmond’s oldest and finest architecture.
You would never guess that Lila is extremely shy by just by looking at these lovely portraits, but she is! That’s okay though. Most photography clients need a little coaching before they’re truly comfortable during their photo sessions.
Every graduate, no matter how shy, deserves a moment in the spotlight to celebrate their accomplishments. As a self-proclaimed introvert, I can certainly relate to Lila’s naturally shy nature. Fortunately, I have a fair bit of practice drawing my clients out of their shells. With a little prompting, Lila’s bright and bubbly personality came to life in front of the camera! She absolutely radiated beauty and poise.
If you’ve visited the blog before, you know how incredibly fond I am of my senior portrait sessions. It’s so touching when a senior or parent of a senior selects me as their photographer, because I have the opportunity to capture those fleeting moments in time that will forever represent the transition between the final days of childhood and the beginning of a young person’s journey into adulthood. Those moments are so precious, and I get to preserve them for a lifetime.
Please join me in congratulating Lila on her recent graduation from Matoaca High School, and wishing her the best of luck in all of her future endeavors!
